Import and Export

The export feature in Blackboard packages your course content so that you can import it into another course. This can be used to copy a course site from one university's system to another Blackboard system. The export course feature does not include any user interactions with the course. It only includes the content and the tools.

Export an Existing Course

  1. On the Control Panel, expand the Packages and Utilities section and click Export/Archive Course.
  2. On the Export/Archive Course page, click Export Package on the Action Bar.
  3. In the Select Course Materials section, either click Select All or select the checkboxes for each course area and tool to export. 
  4. Click Submit.

When you submit the Export Course page, the system begins to create the course package. When the package is complete, you will receive an email from the system. After you receive the email, you can download the course package. When you receive the email, click the Refresh button to see the course package link.

Download a Course Package

When you submit the Export Course page, the system begins to create the course package. When the package is complete, you will receive an email from the system. After you receive the email, you can download the course package.

  1. On the Control Panel, expand the Packages and Utilities section and select Export/Archive Course.
  2. Click the link for the package that you want to download.
  3. Save the file to an appropriate location.

Import a Course Package

  1. From the Control Panel, under Packages and Utilities, click Import Package/View Logs.
  2. Click Import Package.
  3. Click Browse to search for the course package.
  4. Click Select All or check the checkboxes for the course materials to include.
  5. Click Submit.

Copy and Move Course Content

Copying and/or moving course content from one semester to another is the most convenient way for you to reuse and adapt existing course structures, materials and content.

Copy a Course

  1. Enter the older Blackboard course that has content you want to copy.
  2. On the Control Panel, expand the Packages and Utilities section and click Course Copy. [View screenshot]
  3. Select the option: Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course. [View screenshot]
  4. In the Destination Course ID box click the Browse button to view a list of your courses. [View screenshot]
    • In the popup window that appears, select the appropriate course ID from your list of courses and click Submit. The course ID will populate in the Destination Course ID Box. [View screenshot]
  5. Select the course materials that you want to copy over to the existing course. We recommend Select All.
  6. In the File Attachments section, select Copy links and copies of the content
  7. DO NOT select Include Enrollments in the Copy.
  8. Click Submit.

Copy a Test

First, export the test from the current course:

  1. Navigate to the course that contains the test.
  2. Click Course Tools in the Control Panel. [View screenshot]
  3. Ensure the Edit Mode is ON, found at the top-right of your course window.
  4. Click Tests, Surveys, and Pools. [View screenshot]
  5. Click Tests. [View screenshot]
  6. Click the arrow to the right of the test name. [View screenshot]
  7. Select Export. [View screenshot]
  8. Save thefile to the desktop of your computer.
     

Next, import the test into the course of your choice:

  1. Navigate to the Blackboard course you will add the test to.
  2. Click Course Tools from the Control Panel. [View screenshot]
  3. Ensure the Edit Mode is ON, found at the top-right of your course window.
  4. Click Tests, Surveys, and Pools. [View screenshot]
  5. Click Tests. [View screenshot]
  6. Click Import Test. [View screenshot]
  7. Click Browse My Computer. [View screenshot]
  8. Select the file of the exported quiz on your computer. [View screenshot]
  9. Click Submit.
  10. Click OK.

The final step is to deploy the test in a content area where your students can access it. Please visit Tests and Quizzes for more information about deploying the test and selecting your test settings.


Copy or Move Items or Folders

  1. Ensure the Edit Mode is ON, found at the top-right of your course window.
  2. Click the arrow to the right side of item/folder name. [View screenshot]
  3. Select Copy or Move. [View screenshot]
  4. Use the Destination Course drop down menu to select the course you would like to copy or move the item or folder to. [View screenshot]
  5. Click the Destination Folder Browse button. [View screenshot]
  6. Select the area in the course you would like to place the item or folder in. You may need to click the Plus Sign (+ button) to find a folder within a folder. [View screenshot]
  7. Click Submit.
